Our Whitewater Packrafting course is a 2 day course designed for experienced packrafters looking to build their skills to take on more challenging river trips. This course builds on your existing paddling skills to develop the technique and confidence to not simply survive a rapid or river feature, but to run it with style. With a focus on coaching, drills and advanced stroke development, you'll come out of this course ready to take on your next big packrafting adventure.

Event Details

Ascent Guides' Whitewater Packrafting is all about building the skills for running Class III and harder rivers with confidence and style. Over two days and using some of the best rivers in Southwest BC, we'll cover things like scouting and running long and complex rapids, managing holes, surfing, boofing and a whole lot more. If you're looking to step up your packrafting, this is the course for you.

Prerequisites

  • Ascent Guides River Packrafting course or similar
  • Significant experience paddling Class II-II+
  • Ability to self rescue

Schedule

All day will be spent outside learning skills, techniques and paddling.

Gear List

  • River Capable Packraft (spray deck or self bailing) **
  • Class III or V PFD
  • Paddle
  • Throwbag
  • Dry suit
  • Paddling Knife
  • Whistle
  • Neoprene gloves or pogies (optional)
  • Closed toe shoes: paddling shoes or runners
  • Dry bag or bow bag for keeping gear dry
  • HelmetĀ (strongly encourage white water specific helmet, although a climbing or bike helmet in good repair will work)
  • Food
  • Hot drink in a thermos (if you get cold)
  • Dry/warm Clothes & a Towel
  • Water bottle

*It is the clients responsibility to secure equipment prior to the course or trip. If renting through Mt. Waddington Outdoors, you will receive a 10% discount code for online rentals. Please allow adequate time to acquire your rental gear, specifically if shipment is required.

**Packraft availability varies from Mt. Waddington Outdoors. Please secure a packraft well before the course date.

Is this course right for me?

This course is not for beginner packrafters. Students in this course will have to have previously taken an Ascent Packrafting course or will need to have previous river packrafting experience on water Class II+ or above. Students are expected to be proficient in basic paddle techniques and self rescue. If you haven't taken a course with us before and are interested in the Progression course, please email guides@ascentfv.com before registering.
