Trad Climbing

Event Details

Cams, nuts, hexes and slings… what in the world are all of these things!? Traditional (Trad) climbing allows you to climb whatever you want, where ever you want. No longer do you have to follow that row of bolts to get to the top. Trad climbing opens up a wide assortment of crack climbs, multi pitch routes and alpine climbs. Learn what all the gear is about, how it works, the science behind it, how to place it safely and climb above it confidently. We cover the following topics:
  • How cams and nuts work
  • Evaluating quality placements, as well as the rock around it.
  • Extending draws, rope management
  • Anchor building
  • Belaying
  • Redundancy in the systems
  • Route selection
  • Jamming techniques
  • Dangers of trad climbing
You are now entirely in control of your safety. This is part of the appeal, but also part of the danger. It is very important that you understand the pros and cons of the gear and how they are placed, as well as the effects of the rope on this gear. Our guides will walk you through everything so that you leave this course feeling confident with this fundamental knowledge, and self-assured that you can begin your journey of learning trad climbing with a solid foundation.
